About Boynton Beach FL

The city of Boynton Beach is located in Palm Beach County, Florida. Population was 60,389 at the 2000 census. As of 2006, the city had a population of 66,714 according to the University of Florida, Bureau of Economic and Business Research. The Boynton Beach is located in the Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area which had an estimated population of 5,463,857 in 2006.

The median income for a household in the city was $39,845, and the median income for a family was $47,546. Males had a median income of $32,503 versus $26,399 for females. Per capita income for the city was $22,573. About 7.4% of families and 10.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.9% of those under age 18 and 7.2% of those age 65 or over.

Boynton Beach sits on the Atlantic coastline about 15 miles south of West Palm Beach, 32 miles north of Fort Lauderdale, and 63 miles north of Miami. Named for American Civil War major Nathan S. Boynton, who first settled the area in 1894 and began construction of the famous Boynton Beach Hotel a year later. Town of Boynton was incorporated in 1920 and changed its name to Boynton Beach in 1941. Boynton Beach has prospered from its fertile land and rich agricultural output and has supplemented its growth with a thriving tourist industry based on its desirable beaches.

Boynton Beach’s location provides access to theaters, museums, and outdoor recreational attractions. Boynton Beach Oceanfront Park offers fishing and swimming opportunities. The Alberts & Merkel Brothers Rainbow Tropical Garden is a delight for nature lovers. The Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge offers many recreational opportunities, including biking, boating, fishing, canoeing, and walking trails. The park also features a butterfly garden, observation towers, and a visitor center. Other local attractions include Mangrove Nature Park, Schoolhouse Children's Museum, and Knollwood Groves.
